FRESNO, Calif. The Oklahoma wrestling team extended its on the road winning streak to 6-0 after defeating Fresno State, 26-10, in Fresno, Calif., Saturday. Maintaining their undefeated season recorders were Sam Hazewinkel (20-0) and Teyon Ware (18-0). Unranked Charles Jones (157) shocked the Bulldogs by upsetting No. 13 Jim Medeiros by decision, 5-3.
“Overall it was a strong day of wrestling,” said head coach Jack Spates. “The highlight of the evening had to be Charles Jones stepping it up to defeat No. 13 Jim Medeiros.”
Earning big points for the Sooners were Matt Storniolo (149) with a pin at the 5:27 mark, and Ware (141) and Justin Dyer (184) with major decisions over their opponents.
“Justin Dyer has improved,” said Spates. “In his last five matches he has really stepped up his wrestling big time.
“I'm really pleased with the teams performance. We came out of it healthy and now it's on to the National Duals.”
Next weekend the Oklahoma wrestling team will travel to Cleveland, Ohio, for the 2005 Cliff Keen National Duals on January 22-23, at the Cleveland State Convocation Center.
