Bookout Named Big 12 Player of the Week

January 10, 2005 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN, Okla. With his 27-point, 11-rebound performance against Colorado on Saturday, Oklahoma junior forward Kevin Bookout was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Bookout, a 6-8, 259-pound native of Stroud, Okla., was 13-for-14 from the field in OU's 85-55 win over the Buffaloes and registered his second double-double of the season.  His 27 points marked a career high (his previous high was 22) and his 11 boards were one shy of a career best.

Bookout is now shooting .684 from the field to lead the Big 12 and has shot .500 or better in all 12 of his games.  He paced the conference in the category as a freshman in 2002-03 with a .587 mark and led the Sooners last year with a .516 figure.

The player-of-the-week award was OU's fourth individual honor of the season.  Fellow juniors Taj Gray (twice) and Terrell Everett were named Big 12 Rookies of the Week earlier in the year.

Texas freshman Daniel Gibson was named this week's Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week.

Bookout and the Sooners host defending national champion Connecticut Monday at 8 p.m.
