OU Womens Tennis Concludes UNLV Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma women's tennis team took to the courts Sunday for the final day of competition of the UNLV Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. OU was the only school to have a participant in the finals for every flight.
In the Flight One championship, UNLV's Elena Gantcheva won without ever having to take the court after Oklahoma sophomore Gabby Baker defaulted.
Scheduled to compete against each other in the Flight Two final were sophomore Irina Lykina and senior Heather Saluri, but their match was cancelled because they were both from Oklahoma.
In Flight Three action, senior Jessica Braver was defeated by LSU's Daysi Espinal in the final, 6-1, 6-0 while senior Bethany Griffin was defeated by Minnesota's Jane Anderson, 6-2, 6-2 in consolation play.
Sophomore Amanda Pratzel competed against OSU's Lauren Simmons in the Flight Four championship and lost the first set tie-breaker, 7-5, and dropped the second set, 6-2, to lose the match.
In the Flight Five final, freshman Chelsea Orr was defeated by OSU's Jennifer Poskitt, 6-2, 6-3.
In consolation play, freshman Christy Baxley was the lone Sooner to secure a victory and did so in straight sets in her first collegiate tournament by defeating LSU's Jenny Wooten, 6-2, 6-0 in Flight Five competition.
The UNLV Invitational marked the beginning of fall play for OU. Next up, the Sooners will compete at the ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Oct. 20-24.
