NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma men's basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson has been named to the John R. Wooden Award Board of Governors, joining chairman John R. Wooden, vice chairman Dean Smith and 10 other veteran college men's basketball coaches.

Members of the board will advise Wooden Award staff on matters related to college basketball.  They will also serve as spokesmen for the award and consult on issues relating to it.  Board members will not be involved in areas relating to player selection for consideration of the Wooden Award.

Also on the board are Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Jim Calhoun (Connecticut), Mark Gottfried (Alabama), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Gene Keady (Purdue), Ernie Kent (Oregon), Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Lute Olson (Arizona), Tubby Smith (Kentucky) and Roy Williams (North Carolina).

The Wooden Award honors the most outstanding college basketball player in the country.

OU's Hollis Price was a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award in 2003.  Last year's trophy went to St. Joseph's Jameer Nelson.
