Sherri Coale Hires Bill Pink as Director of Basketball Operations

NORMAN, Okla.   Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale completes her staff with the hiring of Bill Pink as Director of Basketball Operations as announced Wednesday. Pink joins the Sooner family after serving a six-year tenure as an assistant professor in the College of Education at Oklahoma Christian University.

“I'm very anxious to start working with another well respected institution and program such as the University of Oklahoma,” said Pink. “Coach Coale is a dear friend and I'm honored to become a part of the OU Women's Basketball family.”

Pink, who starts his career with the Sooners August 16, was also the public address announcer for OU's home women's basketball games last season.

Prior to his position at OC, he was the Athletic Director (1998-99), Assistant to the President (1997-98) and head men's basketball coach (1995-98) at Cascade College in Portland, Ore.

“We feel so fortunate to be adding Bill Pink to our staff,” Coale said. “He brings a wealth of various administrative and basketball experience to our program.  His vision, his insight, and his experience in higher education makes him a great fit for our program at a pivotal point in time. Bill's hiring completes a tremendous staff dedicated to the achievement of our mission of pursuing championships.”

Pink has also been extremely involved in the Oklahoma educational system where he served as a teacher at Kenneth Cooper Middle School (1993-95) and Putnam City Schools (1992-93) in Oklahoma City as well as a camp instructor for Oklahoma Christian Cage (1987-2004).

Pink, 37, became the first African-American in Nebraska's Junior College ranks to be named head men's basketball coach in 1990. For a two-year span (1990-92) he served as an instructor and coach for York College, where he was honored as teacher of the year first runner up in 1992 and second runner up in 1991.

As a student-athlete at York College, Pink garnish All-Nebraska Junior College Conference first team merits as well as York College basketball team captain and most valuable player honors.

In addition, the Abilene Christian High School (Texas) graduate was an NAIA Academic All-American, a two-time NAIA Academic All-District pick and team captain while at Oklahoma Christian.  

Pink earned his Ph.D. in education from Oklahoma in May, 2004, followed by a master's degree from Central Oklahoma (1995) and bachelor's degree from Oklahoma Christian (1990). He also received an associate degree from York College (1987).

Pink and his wife, Lori, have two children: son Lance Baldwin (8) and daughter Lydia Pink (19 months).
