NORMAN, Okla. -- Senior Anda Perianu capped off her University of Oklahoma women's tennis career by becoming OU's first ITA All-American as announced by the ITA last week.
The two-time Big 12 Player of the Year honoree was one of only two league players to receive this accolade. Jessica Roland of Texas A&M was the other.
This honor comes a week after Perianu concluded her collegiate career at the NCAA Women's Singles and Doubles Championships in Athens, Ga. She advanced to the Round of 16 in both events and earned a final ITA singles ranking of No. 7.
The Braila, Romania, native was also named the Central Region Senior Player of the Year after repeating her Big 12 Player of the Year honor as well as her Big 12 No. 1 Singles Position Title. She wrapped up Big 12 action with a perfect 13-0 record and a career winning percentage of .834 (86-17), a Sooner best .
Perianu's achievements also carried over into the classroom as she was one of three Sooners named to the Academic All-Big 12 team.
In order to receive ITA All-American status, a player had to meet one of three criteria in NCAA Division I. The qualifications included a top 16 seed in NCAA Singles Championships, or reach the round of 16 in NCAA Singles Championships or finish in the top 20 of the final ITA rankings.
