Oklahoma To Face UCLA In First Game of NCAA Tournament Action

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The second-seeded and 20th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners will square off with the third-seeded UCLA Bruins in the second game of the opening day of competition in the Oklahoma City NCAA Baseball Regional on Friday.
The contest, which is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the SBC Bricktown Ballpark, will follow the first matchup of the day between the No. 1 seed, Florida, and the No. 4 seed, Central Connecticut State, which is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
Senior Mark Roberts, OU's nine-game winner on the mound, is slated to start against UCLA. Roberts suffered the loss in the only other NCAA Tournament start of his career in 2002. He lasted only 3.2 innings and gave up eight runs on 10 hits to Arkansas at the Wichita State Regional.

The matchup between the Sooners (37-22) and the Bruins (33-27) will be the second time in OU's last three trips to the NCAA Tournament that they have faced UCLA. They last met each other in the championship game of the 2000 regional in Oklahoma City which the Bruins won, 11-3.
Prior to the 2000 matchup, OU defeated UCLA twice at the Mideast Regional in Starkeville, Miss., in 1992 to advance to its first College World Series since 1976. The Sooners upended the Bruins, 5-3, in a 13-inning contest in the first game of the regional and then later captured a 10-0 victory in the regional championship game.
