Blake Martin Named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar
June 22, 2004 | Men's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. - Blake Martin has already exhausted his eligibility as a NCAA student-athlete but the honors continue to roll in for the Oklahoma men's golf program. Tuesday morning Martin was named a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America. It is the fourth time in program history that a Sooner has been named an Academic All-American.
The academic recognition is nothing new for Martin, who has been named to the All-Big 12 Academic First Team the last two years. On the course, Martin finished strongly as well. He turned in a career-best sixth place finish at the Big 12 Championships, which were played at the Prairie Dunes Country Club (par-70, 6,598) in Hutchinson, Kansas.
During regionals Martin finished 66th and helped OU earn a place in the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in the last five years.
Martin joins Matt Cohn (2002), Grant Waite (1986) and Cliff Pierce (1985) as the only players in OU history to garner the prestigious honor.
