Hayward Resigns as Pitching Coach

June 10, 2004 | Baseball

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma head baseball coach Larry Cochell announced on Thursday that assistant coach Ray Hayward has resigned his position.  Hayward, who also played for OU from 1980-83, served as the Sooners' pitching coach for the past five seasons.

“We are very appreciative of Ray Hayward's efforts on behalf of the program over the last several years and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” commented Cochell.

A two-time All-American as a pitcher and outfielder for the Sooners, Hayward returned to his alma mater in the fall of 1999 after pitching professionally for eight seasons and serving as a Major League Baseball scout.

Cochell added that the resignation is effective immediately and indicated that there is no timetable in naming Hayward's successor.
