Bears End Sooners Big 12 Tournament Run, 14-4

ARLINGTON, Texas - Sixth-seeded Baylor scored 13 runs over the final three innings to down No. 2 seed Oklahoma, 14-4, in a seven inning run-rule affair Friday afternoon in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Tournament at Ameriquest Field.
OU's second loss of the tournament ends the 17th-ranked Sooners' (37-22) run in the classic as the Sooners will now await a regional bid announcement on Monday for next week's NCAA Tournament.
The game got away from Oklahoma in the fifth inning when Baylor tagged two OU hurlers for six runs to take their first lead of the contest at 7-4. The Bears proceeded to add on seven more runs on four hits over the next two frames ending with rightfielder Mike Pankratz's two-run homer in the seventh inning to capture the run-rule victory.

In the fifth inning, four of the first five Bears reached base on hits, including a two-RBI triple by centerfielder Chase Gerdes and a RBI-single by second baseman Paul Witt, off Sooner starting pitcher Jarod McAuliff (6-2). The first run of the inning scored after junior third baseman Matt Bose fielded a sacrifice bunt attempt and threw wildly to first base allowing catcher Zach Dillon to advance home from second base.
Senior righthander Mike Swindell relieved McAuliff after four runs had scored and walked the first batter he faced. Swindell allowed the final two runs of the frame to score on a sacrifice fly and RBI-single.
Four of Baylor's five runs in the sixth inning came on a grand slam home run by first baseman Drew Sutton. They had scored another run earlier in the inning courteousy of a RBI-double by Gerdes.
All four of OU's runs were scored in the second inning as the Sooners took advantage of Baylor starting pitcher Mark McCormick's control problems to grab an early 4-0 lead. McCormick walked a tournament record five batters in the inning, three of which forced home runs with the bases loaded. Sophomore leftfielder Scott Rooker, sophomore second baseman Russell Raley and junior first baseman Ole Sheldon each picked up RBI by drawing the walks. The fourth run of the frame was driven in on a sacrifice fly by sophomore shortstop Ryan Rohlinger.
