NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Perianu) and junior Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) will be competing in the NCAA Women's Individual Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on May 24-29.
Fifth ranked Perianu will be competing in the field of 64 singles draw, and will team up with Saluri for the 32-team doubles draw.
Perianu, the 2004 Big 12 Player of the Year, and Big 12 No. 1 singles position champion makes OU history by taking her third consecutive trip to the NCAA Individual Championships, while Perianu and Saluri are making their second straight appearance in the doubles draw.
This season Perianu is 35-3 overall, 23-1 at No. 1 singles and is 14-0 against ranked opponents. She is on a 19-match winning streak, while boosting her career winning percentage to .840, the highest in Oklahoma women's tennis history.
Besides earning conference player of the year honors for the second consecutive season, Perianu was also named to the All-Conference team for the third straight year. She posted a perfect mark of 13-0 in Big 12 play to win the No. 1 singles position for the second season in a row, and was the only player in the conference to be ranked in the top 20 of both the singles and doubles polls this season.
Perianu and Saluri enter the tournament ranked 17th by the ITA, and in 2004 repeated as All-Conference first team members. The duo are 20-10 overall, 14-8 at No.1 doubles and are on a seven match winning streak.
