OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - No. 26 Oklahoma State scored the game-winning run in the top of the 13th inning and sat down the 15th-ranked Sooners in order in the bottom of the frame to hold on for a 6-5 win Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Bedlam doubleheader.

The two teams traded scores in the ninth and 10th innings and were held scoreless until the Cowboys scored in the 13th.  With wins in the first two games of the series, Oklahoma State (29-14, 12-4 Big 12) is the official winner of the Bedlam Series presented by the Bank of Oklahoma and Your Oklahoma Ford Dealers.

Oklahoma dropped to 27-18 overall and 13-7 in the Big 12 Conference.

See how the Sooners stack up against OSU in the Bedlam Series presented by the Bank of Oklahoma and Your Oklahoma Ford Dealers!

OSU scored the game-winning run when catcher Jason Jaramillo doubled to lead off the top of the 13th inning and scored from third base when first baseman Mario Matulich grounded into a double play.  OU junior righthander Daniel McCutchen (3-3), who was just the Sooners' third pitcher of the day, suffered the loss on the mound.

Junior lefthander David Purcey started the game for Oklahoma and worked a career high nine frames.  He was responsible for OSU's first three runs while he also gave up only six hits, walked three and struck out four.  Purcey had only given up one hit and allowed only two other baserunners due to two walks heading into the Cowboys' first run-scoring frame in the seventh.

With both starting pitchers moving through the lineups, Oklahoma was able to take advantage of the first scoring opportunity in the game to take a 1-0 lead.  Freshman leftfielder Chad Lembeck (2-for-4) reached first base on a fielder's choice and was sacrificed to second base by junior centerfielder Jeff Scuderi (0-for-3).  Following the sacrifice, sophomore second baseman Russell Raley (3-for-4) singled to drive in Lembeck for the first run.

The Sooners held the one-run lead until the seventh inning when the Cowboys grabbed a 2-1 advantage with their first substantial rally off Purcey.  Three consecutive singles led to OSU's first run and rightfielder Rod Allen brought home the second run on a sacrifice fly to right field which scored leftfielder Scott Kirby on a close play at the plate.

Oklahoma State cushioned their lead with another run in the top of the ninth inning with a pair of two out base hits to make it 3-1 in favor of the Cowboys.  Kirby tripled and scored on first baseman Mario Matulich's RBI-single.

Oklahoma rallied to knot the game at 3-3 in the bottom half of the inning and send the game into extra frames.  Raley began the rally with a triple to center field and scored on Sheldon's sacrifice fly to pull OU to within a run at 3-2.  Freshman pinch hitter Ryan Mottern then stepped to the plate following a double by junior third baseman Matt Bose (1-for-6) and laced a clutch two out single to left field to tie the game.

After the Cowboys scored a pair of runs in the top of the 10th inning, the Sooners responded with two of their own.  Oklahoma took advantage of an error on Kirby on a dropped fly ball in left field to allow Raley, who had walked, to race around the bases to score for the first run.  With sophomore shortstop Ryan Rohlinger (1-for-5) standing at second base, junior first baseman Ole Sheldon (2-for-5) singled to left field to drive in Rohlinger for the tying run and keep the Sooners alive.

OU had its chances to win the game in the bottom of the 12th inning as well, but had a runner thrown out at the plate and left another in scoring position.

The Sooners will look to salvage the final game of the series tonight at 7 p.m. at the SBC Bricktown Ballpark.
