The No. 19 ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team claimed its eighth Big 12 win of the season Saturday, sweeping Iowa State, 7-0, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. The Sooners took the doubles point and won all six singles in straight sets. Oklahoma moves to 19-3 overall and 8-2 in Big 12 play, while the Cyclones fall to 5-11 overall and 0-10 in Big 12 play.

“I was happy with the way we went out there and got things done,” said head coach Mark Johnson. “In both singles and doubles we jumped on them early and really finished matches off.”

The Sooners started strong in the doubles, dominating at all three positions. OU's 17th-ranked pair of Anda Perianu (Braila, Romaina) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) claimed their fourth straight win at No. 1, with a 8-2 victory over ISU's Sabrina Evers and Evangelina Soriano. At No. 2, OU's duo of Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and Irina Lykina (Kazan,Russia) cruised past Iowa State's pair of Beth Chermel and Danielle Uscinski, 8-1. Oklahoma's Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) and Beth Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) completed the sweep with a 8-2 win over ISU's Charlotte Ljungkrantz and Jill Palen at No. 3. Baker and Griffin's win was their seventh straight and they move to an overall record of 15-3 and 8-2 in the Big 12.

In singles play, the Sooners were led by fifth-ranked Perianu who defeated ISU's Evers 6-0, 6-1. Perianu's win pushes her spring record to 18-1 and she remains undefeated in Big 12 play with a record of 10-0 at No. 1 singles. Baker posted OU's next point with a straight set win over ISU's Jill Palen, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Saluri then sealed the match, defeating Iowa State's Beth Chermel, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Braver and Lykina were next to finsh, both posting straight set victories for the Sooners at No. 5 and No. 2 singles respecitvely. Last on court was freshman Amanda Pratzel (St. Louis, Mo.) who defeated ISU's Ljungkrantz 6-4, 6-2 in her first Big 12 match of the season.

The Sooners will close out regular season play Sunday, hosting Big 12 opponent Nebraska at 10 a.m., at the Headington Family Tennis Center. It will be senior day for Oklahoma's lone senior, Perianu, who will play her last home match of the regular season against the Huskers. Admission is free.
