COLLEGE STATION, Texas - A seven -run ninth inning was not enough for the 18th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners as No. 13 Texas A&M made a 10 run margin hold up for an 11-8 win Friday night at Olsen Field.
A&M mounted a large lead through the first five innings courteousy of three home runs, two of which were multi-run shots. The loss ended the Sooners' (23-13, 10-3 Big 12) nine game conference winning streak, its longest winning streak in league play in 18 years. The Aggies improved to 31-9 overall and 7-6 Big 12.
Down 11-1 entering the ninth inning, Oklahoma made valiant a last second effort to win the game as they runs to cut into the lead. A string of three straight singles to begin the inning loaded the bases for sophomore second baseman Russell Raley (2-for-5) who brought home a run on a fielder's choice.

Following a RBI-single by senior rightfielder Andrew McGuire (2-for-5), two Aggies hurlers ran into control problems and forced home two more runs on a hit batter and walk to keep the bases full.
The bases remained loaded until junior designated hitter Eric Thornton (1-for-4) cleared them with a double down the right field line. The three runs were the final ones the Sooners were able to bring home as A&M hurler Blake Rampy came on to strike out the final three batters of the game.
The beginning of the game looked promising for Oklahoma as Raley laced a double down into the right field corner to lead off the game and immediately scored on McGuire's RBI-single to give the Sooners an early 1-0 advantage.
After retiring the first three Aggies he faced in the first inning, OU starting pitcher Mark Roberts (5-3) ran into trouble with the first three batters he met in the second frame. Back-to-back home runs by the second and third batters of the inning, including a two run shot by designated hitter Justin Ruggiano, brought in all three scores to put Texas A&M ahead 3-1.
Another home run, this time by Aggie leftfielder Travis Bartek, in the fourth inning plated three more runs for A&M to extend its lead to 6-1.
Ruggiano and Patton combined again in the fifth frame to touch Roberts for two more runs and an 8-1 lead. With two outs in the inning, Ruggiano doubled home a run and was eventually brought home himself on a RBI-single by Patton.
Roberts' night ended after giving up eight runs on nine hits in six innings of work.
The final three Aggie runs were scored off of freshman relievers Charles Benoit and Ryan Mottern in the seventh and eighth innings. Both runs charged to Benoit were unearned due to a misplayed ball by junior centerfielder Jeff Scuderi (1-for-3). Mottern walked in a run in the eighth after loading the bases with two outs on two singles and a hit batter.
Scuderi and Sheldon both extended their career best hitting streaks to 13 games which established a new individual long streak for the Sooners.
The series continues tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Olsen Field. Oklahoma's starting pitcher has yet to be determined while Texas A&M will send junior lefthander Zach Jackson (7-2) to the mound.
