Anthony Kim Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month
March 04, 2004 | Men's Golf
University of Oklahoma men's golfer Anthony Kim has been honored as the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for February, the conference office announced Thursday. The honor came after Kim, from La Quinta, Calif., was the individual medalist in the Waikoloa Intercollegiate and placed third in the Puerto Rico Classic.
Kim became the first OU freshman to win a tournament since 1988 and the first Sooner medalist since 2002 after firing a 67 in two of his rounds to finish the tournament with a 205 (-11). Kim followed that performance with a third-place finish at the Puerto Rico Classic after totaling 210 (-6) strokes in the second round.
Oklahoma finished fifth as a team in the Waikoloa Intercollegiate among five ranked opponents and third in the Puerto Rico Classic, which included nine ranked opponents. Top-ranked Florida and No. 2 Clemson (GolfWeek) were the only ranked teams to finish ahead of Oklahoma.
Kim is averaging a team-low 72.2 strokes per round after five fall and spring tournaments. Kim and the Sooners return to action March 15-16 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
