Women's Tennis Heads To Utah

Women's Tennis Sweeps George Mason, 7-0

The 24th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team claimed its sixth straight victory Thursday defeating George Mason, 7-0, at the GMU tennis courts in Fairfax, Va. The Sooners swept the doubles and the singles, only dropping ten games in the dual. The Sooners move to 10-1 on the season while the Patriots fall to 0-9.

The Sooners were strong in the doubles claiming the doubles point for the sixth consecutive dual. At the No.1 spot, Oklahoma's pair of Jessica Braver (Edmond, Okla.) and Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) dominated GMU's Jenn Dektas and Jamie Delorie, 8-0. At No.2, OU's duo of Gabby Baker (Gold Coast, Australia) and Amanda Pratzel (St. Louis, Mo.) defeated Maricel Ballester and Katie Sloper, 8-2. Oklahoma's team of Joi-lee Beachler (Oklahoma City) and Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) rolled GMU's Natalie Oudar and Melissa Wooten, 8-0, at No. 3.

The Sooners came out firing in the singles, winning all six singles in straight sets. With senior standout Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and Baker sitting out for the singles, the Sooners were led by freshman Irina Lykina (Kazan, Russia) at the No.1 spot. Lykina defeated GMU's Jenn Dektas, 6-0, 6-0. Braver, Griffin and Saluri all posted singles victories for the Sooners. Beachler and Pratzel also were victorious, winning in straight sets.
 
The Sooners next face Tulsa on Wed., March 24, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman at 2 p.m.
