Men's Tennis Finishes Tourney Strong

Men's Tennis Falls to William and Mary

The Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. 49 William and Mary in a close 4-3 match Wednesday at the Busch Tennis Courts in Williamsburg, Va. The Sooners took three of the six singles matches but were unable to get one more for the win. OU falls to 11-2 while the Tribe improves to 7-8 on the season.

In singles play, Oklahoma tied William and Mary, 3-3. Undefeated freshman Marek Velicka (Prerov, Czech Republic) moved to 13-0 on the season with a straight-set victory over W&M's Steven Kane at the No. 3 spot. Junior Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) posted OU's second point with a straight-set victory over W&M's Colin O'Brien 6-2, 7-6 at No. 5. Freshman Lee Gregg (Altus, Okla.) dominated in the first set winning 6-1, but W&M's Alex Fish retired, handing Gregg the match at No. 6.

In the doubles, OU's undefeated duo of Tanasoiu and Velika posted Oklahoma's only doubles win for the day with a 8-6 victory over W&M's Alex Fish and Jeff Kader, 8-6. Tanasoiu and Velika now move to 3-0 on the season.

The Sooners now face George Mason on Thurs., March 18 at the GMU Tennis Courts in Fairfax, Va. at 1 p.m. EST.
