Seniors Key Oklahoma Win over A&M, 56-46

Seniors Maria Villarroel and Caton Hill keyed the Sooners' 56-46 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday at the Lloyd Noble Center.  The win snapped OU's four-game losing streak in front of the second largest home crowd this season, 7,691.

Villarroel scored a game-high 19 points and added eight rebounds and pocketed five steals while Hill recorded her fourth double-double this season with 12 points and 11 boards to lead the Sooners.

OU (14-6, 4-5 Big 12) started the game with a 14-0 run before Texas A&M (8-13, 1-9 Big 12) scored their first bucket at the 14:43 mark. The Sooners enjoyed their biggest lead of the game twice in the first half on top of the Aggies by 16 and were up 31-18 at intermission.

The Aggies battled back to cut the lead down to four (45-41) with 2:45 remaining in the second half but were unable to get any closer.  A&M committed 18 turnovers in the ballgame as OU recorded 13 steals and dished out 11 assists in the contest.

With 2:05 remaining, freshman Erin Higgins hit her lone field goal of the ballgame with a clutch three pointer to close the door and put the Sooners up 49-41.  Higgins was also responsible for two blocks in the game, adding to her four points and two rebounds.

Junior Dionnah Jackson was also solid for the Sooners just missing her second consecutive double-double by bringing down nine rebounds and adding 13 points.  Jackson also had three steals and four assists.

Texas A&M's Tamea Scales scored a team high 17 points and 12 rebounds.

OU is now 7-2 at home this season and takes its winning streak to nine straight when hosting Texas A&M.  Overall, the Sooners are 17-8 all-time against the Aggies.

Next up for the Sooners is a showdown at Texas Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas.
