Keiter Named To Colorado Hall Of Fame

Keiter Named To Colorado Hall Of Fame

February 17, 2004 | Softball

Kami Keiter is yet to step in the pitcher's circle this season but still she continues to rack up prestigious honors.  The All-American starting pitcher for the Oklahoma softball team will be inducted into the Sportswomen of Colorado Hall of Fame on March 14, during a ceremony in Denver.

“It is a huge honor to be inducted into a such an elite group,” said Keiter.  “It is certainly something I didn't expect.  I greatly appreciate the honor and hopefully I can continue to build upon with OU.”

Keiter pitched Arvada West High School (Colo.) to two Class 5A state titles and was twice named Rocky Mountain News all-Colorado pitcher of the year.

Last season, Keiter earned second-team All America honors while compiling a 34-9 record for the Sooners.  She tallied a 1.02 earned run average, and her victories total was the fourth best among the nation's college pitchers.  She posted 12 shutouts and allowed only 44 earned runs while also earning all-Big 12 Conference, all-region and second team all-Midwest honors.

The fact that Keiter was named an All-American and received two Colorado pitcher of the  year honors automatically qualified her for induction into the Colorado Hall of Fame.  Native Colorado athletes that receive a total of three national honors are automatically inducted.  Keiter is among three honorees inducted this year

Before the start of the season Keiter was the named to the watch list for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.

The honorees were chosen by a media panel of sportswriters and sportscasters from around the state of Colorado.  The highlight of the March banquet will be the announcement of the Sportswoman of the Year.

Keiter has not pitched for OU this season due to a strained biceps in her pitching (left) arm.  There are no projections on her return to the lineup but the injury is not considered serious.

“This is a precautionary measure,” said OU head coach Patty Gasso.  “We don't want Kami to pitch until she is 100 percent.”

The Sooners are hosting the OU/Worth Invitational on the weekend of March 14, therefore Keiter will be unable to attend the banquet.
