Men's Golf Fifth at The Prestige

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished fifth at The Prestige at PGA West in La Qunita, Calif., Tuesday.

The Sooners improved each round, shooting 315, 308 and 299 as a team as they enjoyed sunny, mid-70s weather throughout the two-day tournament.

All-American Carlos Del Moral led the Sooners for the first time this season. Del Moral finished the tournament tied for 10th-place after starting in 23rd. He finished the final round with an even-par 72.

No. 16 UCLA (904, +40) defended its 2003 Prestige title as California schools swept the top three spots on their home turf.

Host UC Davis' Erik Hill won the individual title, shooting 217 (+1). Hill shot a 69, the tournament's lowest round score, in the final 18 on the par-72, 7,156-yard Greg Norman Course.

All-American Anthony Kim, who started the third round tied with Del Moral in 23rd, failed to move up the leaderboard after being bitten by a double bogey on the par-3 17th hole. Kim finished tied for 22nd at +15.

Sophomore transfer Nick Sheedy, in his first start with the Sooners, placed 33rd. Sheedy birdie four holes in the final round to drop his overall score to 234 (+18).

Junior Brodie Flanders and freshman Phillip Bryan tied scores for the third consecutive tournament. They finished in 39th at 20 over par. Flanders and Bryan improved steadily with each round. Flanders shot rounds of 82, 78 and 76 while Bryan scored 80, 79 and 77.

The Prestige concludes the fall season for the Oklahoma men's golf team. The Sooners return to action with the TaylorMade Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Waikoloa, Hawaii, February 9.
