Womens Tennis Finished At ITA Regionals

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma wome's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Wlison/ITA Regional V Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., Saturday after OU did not advance anyone to the finals which will be held Sunday. The Sooners had three teams competing in doubles action and one competitor in main draw singles action Saturday.

Sophomore Gabby Baker was the last Sooner left in main draw singles action after defeating two tough opponents Friday. However, in the quarterfinals No. 9 Baker was defeated by third-ranked Gitte Osterman of Nebraska, 6-1, 6-4, which finished in her run at the tournament.

In doubles action, the duo of sophomore Irina Lykina and senior Heather Saluri defeated Saint Louis's Tara Grant and Ana Renda, 8-2. The seventh-ranked team moved on to the round of 16 where they were beaten by No. 10 Tako Kvaratskhelia and Maria Rosenberg of Kansas State, 8-0.

In other doubles play, Christi Baxley and Bethany Griffin were defeated in a tight match by OSU's Sandra Blajer and Jana Kubicikova, 9-8, in the round of 32. Senior Jessica Braver and Baker also ended their doubles run after being defeated in another close match by Nebraska's Pamela Castellejos and Katie Garcia, 9-8, in the round of 32.

Griffin continued her run through singles consolation play after handily beating ISU's Jill Palen, 6-3, 6-2, but in the round of 16, Griffin fell to Boise State's Alissa Alying, 6-1, 6-1.
