NORMAN, Okla. -- Members of the Oklahoma women's tennis team will travel to Tulsa to compete in the 2004 Wilson/ITA Central Region Singles and Doubles Championships at the Micahel D. Case Tennis Center. The five day event begins Wednesday, Oct. 20 and features 25 teams from the Central Region.

Seven Sooners have been selected for the tournament.  Competing for OU in the main draw singles action on Thursday at 8 a.m. will be senior Heather Saluri and sophomores Gabby Baker and Irina Lykina.  Taking the court on Wednesday at 9 a.m. for the qualifying singles draw will be seniors Jessica Braver and Bethany Griffin and freshmen Christi Baxley and Christy Greenly.

OU has three doubles teams competing in main draw action, which also starts Thursday, Oct. 21.  Playing for the Sooners will be the teams of Braver and Baker, Saluri and Lykina and Griffin and Baxley.

The top two singles players and the top doubles team from the tournament will go on to compete in the ITA National Indoor Tournament Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., in November.

Last year, Oklahoma made history by becoming the only OU squad to ever be selected to the ITA National Team Indoor playoffs.  Former Sooner and two-time Big 12 Player of the Year Anda Perianu won the ITA Regional Singles Championship last October and advanced to the ITA National Indoor Championships where she lost to the No. 1 seed (Agata Cioroch of Georgia) in the Championship match.

Live scoring for the tournament will be available at www.TulsaHurricane.com.
