NORMAN, Okla. The No. 27 Oklahoma women's cross country team finished 13th at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday afternoon, while the men finished 18th.
Sophomore Jessica Eldridge finished 12th of 195 runners in a field of 24 women's teams. Nine nationally ranked teams, including the Oklahoma women, participated at the event.
“Jessica didn't get a great start and that hindered her chances of a victory,” OU head coach Rodney Rothoff said, “but she came away with a solid performance.”
Eldridge ran the 5K race in 17 minutes, 6 seconds, keeping pace with the No. 1 Stanford team throughout the event.

“As a team, both the women and men, we did not do what we expected to accomplish here at Notre Dame,” Rothoff said. “When we get back to campus, we'll regroup and get ready for the next four weeks leading to the conference championship.”
Sophomore Jason Coleman led the OU men with a 60th-place finish. Coleman's covered the five-mile course in 24:45, the sixth-fastest recorded time in school history.
“The course was very fast and it is disappointing that we didn't do better,” Rothoff said.
Nicola Maye (32nd, 17:32), Catherine Odell (88th, 18:12), Aja Clark (104th, 18:26) and Jackie Dubois (156th, 18:56) were the other women's scorers.
On the men's side, sophomore Tyler Schmiedeberg followed Coleman in 79th with a run of 24:59, the 10th-fastest recorded time in school history.
Andrew Call (140th, 25:52), Blake Culp (143rd, 25:56) and Salah Hussein (179, 26:40) rounded out the men's team.
“Our youth really showed today,” Rothoff said. “Our athletes aren't experienced with large fields, but they came away with good experience and they will do much better with this situation in the future.”
The men's and women's B-teams race Saturday morning at the Cowboy Jamboree. The women's race begins a 9:10 a.m. and the men follow at 9:40 a.m.
The entire Sooner team will be back in action Friday, Oct. 8, for a dual with Southern Methodist University at Norbuck Park in Dallas, Texas.
