Men's Tennis Concludes Play at All-American Championships

OU Men's Tennis Duo Wins Opening Rounds of ITA All-American

NORMAN, Okla.   A pair of University of Oklahoma men's tennis players won their opening round matches in the prequalifying portion of the 2004 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., played at the  Champions Tennis Club.  The prequalifying tournament began with a total of 192 players from over 70 schools.

OU junior Lee Gregg defeated Butler's Andy Bartish, 6-2, 6-2 to move on to the next round where he defeated Paul White of LSU, 6-2, 6-4.  Highley seeded sophomore Marek Velicka also advanced by beating UTSA's Anthony Portois, 6-3, 6-2.  Both players continue singles play on Saturday at 10 a.m.  Gregg and Velicka will also pair up for doubles action Saturday afternoon following singles competition.

Junior Tommy Garrison lost to James Low of Butler in a three-set match, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, while senior Silviu Tanasoiu lost to Furman's Allen Simmons, 7-6, 6-2, in prequalifying round.  The two will pair up with their respective partners for the doubles competition Saturday.
