July 25, 2003 | Baseball

Oklahoma junior lefthanded hurler David Purcey has been selected to play in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game which will take place Saturday, July 26, in Falmouth, Mass. A regular starter for the Orleans Cardinals this summer, Purcey earned a spot as a reserve on the Eastern Division squad after posting an impressive 3-1 record and a 1.86 ERA in eight starts. The CCBL All-Stars were chosen by the leagues 10 field managers.

Purceys performance this summer has helped vault his Cardinals into a first place tie in the Eastern Division heading into the All-Star break. The Cardinals have made a recent push towards the top of the division after winning seven of their last 10 contests. Purceys ERA leads all the Cardinals starters with five starts or more as he has coupled his effort with 48 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work and limited batters to only 21 hits.

The game is scheduled to be televised on Fox Sports Net New England and College Sports Television. The radio broadcast can also be listened to live on the leagues official web site, www.capecodbaseball.org.
