NORMAN, Okla. - Two more Oklahoma Sooners were chosen on the second day of the 2003 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Wednesday as junior catcher Spencer Wyman and redshirt senior pitcher Curtis White were selected by the Florida Marlins and Texas Rangers. The Marlins selected Wyman with the 923rd overall pick in the 31st round, while the Rangers took White, who took a medical redshirt this season to rehab an injured shoulder, with the1,302 overall pick in the 44th round. For White, the Rangers pick made the fifth-straight year that the lefthanded hurler has been taken in the draft. Wyman and White's selections marked the fifth and sixth selections from the school in this year's draft after four other players were chosen on the first day.

Wyman was the Sooners' starter behind the plate this season and put up some impressive power numbers. The Camarillo, Calif., native established a personal season best with nine home runs which led the team. Despite hitting .223 for the year, Wyman finished the season strong by collecting hits in 10 of the last 11 games, including a career high nine-game hitting streak, in which he batted .333 with two homers, 10 runs scored and seven RBI.

The Rangers are the fourth Major League Baseball organization to draft White in the last five years. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays first selected White in 1999 and 2000, followed by a pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2001 and most recently a selection by the Oakland Athletics last year. Although White was unable to compete for OU this season, the Lindsay, Okla., product was one of the team's most valuable pitchers in 2002. White was the third most called upon relief pitcher on the staff that year as he posted a 1-2 record with one save and a 4.65 ERA in 20 appearances.

Senior center fielder Reggie Willits (Anaheim, 7th round), junior pitcher Buddy Blair (St. Louis, 10th round), senior second baseman Eddie Cornejo (Oakland, 13th round) and sophomore hurler David Purcey (N.Y. Yankees, 17th round) were all chosen on the first day of the draft on Tuesday. The six total players taken over the two days of the draft marks the most talent the program has produced in the last five years.
