Cornejo Reaps First Team All-Midwest Region Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - Sooner second baseman Eddie Cornejo was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Midwest Region first team as announced by the association Tuesday afternoon. The distinction marks the first of Cornejo's career and fourth consecutive year the Oklahoma program has produced a first team all-region selection. Cornejo racked up several other honors during his stand out senior campaign including first team All-Big 12 Conference, Big 12 Player of the Week and second team academic all-conference accolades.
Cornejo ended his two-year Oklahoma career as a unanimous first team All-Big 12 pick after finishing the regular season ranked second in the league in hitting overall and in conference games only. The conference's Co-Player of the Week for the week of April 28, he also appeared among the league leaders in on base percentage, hits and walks at the end of the season.
One of six University of Oklahoma players to be selected in the 2003 Major League Baseball Player Draft, Cornejo was a 13th round pick of the Oakland Athletics. He is currently playing for the Vancouver Canadians, one of the club's Class A teams, and is leading the team in hitting with a .333 average.
