NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) were selected to the field of 32 doubles teams that will compete in the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships. The doubles competition will be held on May 21-26 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
Garrison and Mitchell have been solid for the No. 73 Sooner men's tennis team sporting an overall mark of 20-9 while going 8-3 versus regional foes. They went 13-7 at No. 1 doubles this spring including an 8-3 victory over Texas A&M's 25th-ranked duo of Ryan Newport and Lester Cook.
Garrison and Mitchell got off to a great start last fall going 7-2 and were also named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team in doubles prior to the spring campaign. OU's top pair almost beat the Big 12's No. 1 double's position champions, Texas' 20th-ranked Jean Simon and Jose Zarhi, in the first round of the Big 12 Championships but were narrowly defeated in a tie-breaker, 9-8.
