Sooner Men's Tennis Falls To No. 36 Oklahoma State

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to No. 36 Oklahoma State, 5-2, Wednesday evening at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Sooners dropped to 12-9 overall and 0-6 versus Big 12 opponents while the Cowboys moved to 10-3 overall and 3-2 in conference.

The Sooners narrowly lost the doubles point as OSU claimed the No. 1 and 3 positions. Sooners Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) picked up their 13th victory at No. 2 against the Cowboys' Yevgen Bondarchuck and Jiri Spousta, 8-6. OU senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) pushed their match against Mark Van Elden and Jiri Jirzek to a tie-breaker but were defeated, 9-8 (7-5).

Following an OSU victory at No. 6 singles, Sooner senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) scored a straight-set win at No. 4 over OSU's Juan Felipe Diaz, 6-1, 7-6. The victory pushed his record at No. 5 to 3-0.

The Cowboys came back to post wins at No. 1 and 3 singles to increase their lead. Oklahoma sophomore Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania) got off to a fast start at No. 4 against Bohunicky but was defeated, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0. Mitchell provided another point for the Sooners defeating OSU's Boris Kuharic, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. It was his 12th win of the spring and seventh at No. 2.

The Sooners take a break from conference action this weekend when they play host to Texas-Arlington on Saturday, April 12. UTA is 10-5 overall and 5-0 in the Southland Conference. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center
