Sooner Men's Tennis Edged By Nebraska, 4-3

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team dropped a tough road match to Nebraska, 4-3, Saturday at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. The Sooners dropped to 12-8 overall and 0-5 versus Big 12 opponents while the Cornhuskers improved to 10-8 overall and 1-4 in conference.

The Sooners barely missed winning the doubles point as NU claimed the No. 1 and 3 positions to take an early lead. OU did pick up a victory at No. 2 where sophomore Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) beat NU's DJ Geatz and Jacek Wolicki, 8-5. OU's Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) had a chance to win the doubles point for Oklahoma but were defeated, 9-8, by NU's Florian Preissler and Joerg Barthel.

The Sooners posted three straight-set victories in singles. Sooner senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) beat Joel Reckewey, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 4 while Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania) outlasted Husker Patrick Kennedy, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 5. OU's Garrison dominated Jeff Nabity, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 for Oklahoma's final point.

The Huskers had victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions tying the score at 3-3. Oklahoma sophomore Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) pushed his match at No. 3 against NU's Wolicki to a third set but fell, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

The Sooners return home this week to face bedlam rival No. 46 Oklahoma State on Wednesday, April 9. The Cowboys are 9-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center
