OU Men's Tennis Beats Saint Louis

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team beat regional foe Saint Louis, 4-3, Sunday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Sooners improved to 14-9 overall and 5-3 versus Region V opponents while the Billikens fell to 8-12 overall.

The Sooners swept the doubles point for the 10th time this season to take the early lead in the match. Senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) are 2-1 at No. 3 since teaming up as they beat USL's Michael Hoosien and Thomas Kwong, 8-6. OU senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) clinched the doubles point and their 12th win at No. 1 with an 8-6 victory over Tom de Larzac and Lance Vodicka.

Sooners Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) won a tie-breaker at No. 2 (7-4) to beat the Billikens' Ikaika Jobe and Sanjeev Paramanathan, 9-8, to complete the sweep. The duo has won eight of their last nine to compile an overall record of 15-5 this spring.

Oklahoma got off to another fast start in singles as Tanasoiu beat Kwong, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 and Garrison defeated Hoosien, 6-4, 6-2, for his fourth win of the spring at No. 6.

In the final home match of his OU career, Sooner senior Ogle clinched the Oklahoma victory with a 6-1, 7-5 win over USL's Tom de Larzac. Ogle has won four of his last five matches in singles.

The Sooners travel to Boulder, Colo., on Saturday, April 19, for their final regular season match against conference and regional opponent Colorado (5-12, 1-4 Big 12). That match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. (MST).
