NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's and women's tennis teams continue their respective homestands Saturday, April 12, at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. The 29th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team (16-3, 5-2 Big 12) continues their four-match home stretch at 10 a.m. against the Texas Tech Lady Raiders (2-11, 2-7 Big 12). The Sooners lead the series 4-2 since 1989 with OU winning last year's match in Lubbock, 4-3.
Sooner junior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) is currently on a six-match winning streak at No. 1 singles and has won 12 of her last 13 matches. She sports a 16-2 record at No. 1 and is ranked 80th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Elsewhere in singles, senior Melissa Mendieta (San Jose, Costa Rica) and sophomore Bethany Griffin (Amarillo, Texas) have both won four of their last five while sophomore Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) and senior Annette Bryntesson (Perth, Australia) have each won three straight including Bryntesson's victory over SMU's 109th-ranked Svetlana Kouzmenko. This spring, Bryntesson is 10-4 at No. 3 and Mendieta is 9-3 at No. 6. In doubles, the 38th-ranked pair of Perianu and Saluri are 12-1 at No. 1 and have their last four duals while Griffin and Bryntesson have combined for a 10-4 record at No. 2.
The Oklahoma men's tennis team (12-9, 0-6 Big 12) begins a two-match stretch against a pair of non-conference foes at 11 a.m. against the Texas-Arlington Mavericks (10-5, 5-0 Southland). The Mavericks have already claimed the Southland conference regular season title. UTA defeated OU last season in Arlington, 4-2, to up their lead in the overall series to 3-2.
Leading the Sooners in singles is senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.), who sports a combined record of 12-7 at No. 1 and 2 singles. Freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) is 5-2 at No. 2 singles while senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) has won three of his last four matches.
Mitchell and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) have combined for a 10-6 mark at No. 1 doubles this spring. The duo has been solid since pairing up last Fall sporting an overall record of 17-8. Ivanov and Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) have started their last seven matches at No. 2 doubles winning six to move to 13-5 overall.
