OU Men's Tennis Dominates Oral Roberts

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team shut out regional opponent Oral Roberts, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners move to 9-2 overall and 4-0 against regional opponents while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-10 on the season.

OU took advantage of perfect weather conditions and got off to a fast start in doubles claiming all three matches. Sooner senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) beat ORU's Jared Welch and Matt Munson, 8-1, to remain undefeated at No. 1 doubles with a record of 6-0.

OU sophomore Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) and freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) clinched the doubles point with an 8-2 win over ORU's Chris Moore and Kevin Garlington. The Sooners completed the sweep in doubles as senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Brad Prigmore (Wichita Falls, Texas) got past Eddie Paez and Wessel Kemp, 8-3.

Mitchell pushed his record at to 5-0 at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2, victory over Moore while Ivanov also moved to 5-0 at No. 2 singles defeating Paez, 6-1, 6-1. Garrison defeated Garlington 6-0, 6-2 while Ogle beat Welch, 6-1, 6-0, for his first victory at No. 3 singles. Sooner sophomore Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania) defeated Munson at No. 4 singles while OU's Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) completed the shutout with a 6-1, 6-4, vicotry over Kemp.

The Sooners continue their two-day homestand tomorrow (March 8) against No. 71 Michigan State. Match time is scheduled for Noon at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center.
