Sooner Men's Tennis Beaten By No. 10 Texas A&M

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to 10th-ranked Texas A&M, 5-2, Saturday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Sooners dropped to 12-6 overall and 0-3 versus Big 12 opponents while the Aggies improved to 17-5 overall and 2-0 in conference.

The Sooners came out strong winning two of three in doubles. At No. 1, OU senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) upset A&M's 16th-ranked duo of Lester Cook and Ryan Newport, 8-3. It was their 10th win of the season at No. 1 doubles.

Sooners Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) and Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) won their 11th match of the season with an 8-3 win at No. 2 over Aggies John Nallon and Matt Loucks to secure the doubles point for OU. The Sooners have now won the doubles point 10 times this season including their last three contests.

The Aggies took control of the match in singles winning in straight sets at No. 1 and 2 to take the lead. Oklahoma senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) posted a victory at No. 4 with a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 win over Loucks. Ogle is now 3-2 at No. 4 and 9-7 this spring.

Sooner sophomore Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania) pushed his match with Nallon at No. 5 to three sets but was defeated, 7-6, 1-6, 6-4, while OU's Garrison led early in the second set against A&M's Cameron Fenner but was unable to push his match to three sets and was defeated, 6-3, 7-6.

The Sooners are back in action tomorrow (Sunday) against No. 17 Texas (9-4, 2-0). The Longhorns defeated No. 68 Oklahoma State, 5-2, this afternoon in Stillwater. Play is scheduled to begin at Noon at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center located at the corner of Chautauqua and Imhoff in Norman.
