OU Men's Tennis Bounces Back Against Sacramento State

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team defeated Sacramento State, 6-1, Thursday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Center in Berkeley, Calif. The Sooners move to 12-4 overall while the Hornets fall to 8-10.

The Sooners shut out Sacramento State in doubles winning all three matches. OU senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) posted their eighth win of the season at No. 1 doubles with an 8-6 win over Colin Moulton and Jakub Silva. Sooners Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) and Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) were 8-6 winners over Matthew Jones and Lewis Van Splunteren at No. 2. Senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Brad Prigmore (Wichita Falls, Texas) completed the sweep at No. 3 with an 8-6 victory against Anders Albertsen and Nick Sheehan

In singles, OU's Ivanov secured his fifth victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Jones while Mitchell also won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, over Sheehan at No. 2. Sooner sophomore Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) posted his second win at No. 4 with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Silva and OU sophomore Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania) nearly shut out Moulton at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. Garrison beat Van Splunteren, 6-4, 6-1, to finish the scoring for Oklahoma at No. 6.

The Sooners return to the road next week against regional opponent Wichita State (3-5) on Thursday, March 20. OU is currently 4-0 against teams in Region V with two victories over Oral Roberts and wins against Southwest Missouri State and Drake. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex on the south side of the Wichita State campus.
