OU Men's Tennis Drops Match To San Francisco, 4-2

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma men's tennis team fell to San Francisco, 4-2, Wednesday at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif. The Sooners drop to 11-4 overall and remain 0-2 in Big 12 action while the Dons improve their record to 14-5.

San Francisco took two of three in doubles to claim the point and take an early lead in the match. Sooners Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) and Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) mustered a victory at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 win over USF's Jon Lippert and Axel Elvik. OU's Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and Brad Prigmore (Wichita Falls, Texas) were beaten, 8-5, at No. 3 by Jorgen Arnesen and Pablo Pieres de Almeida while Sooners Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) dropped their third match of the season at No. 1 falling to Joachim Lien and Mason Fuller, 8-6.

OU's Mitchell won in straight sets over Arnesen at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-3, while Sooner sophomore Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) breezed past USF's Sean Dizon, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4.

USF claimed three singles points at the No. 1, 3 and 5 spots. OU's Ivanov pushed Lien to a third set but fell, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, while USF's Elvik won in straight sets over Sooner sophomore Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania). Pires de Almeida was victorious in a third-set tie-breaker over Ogle to clinch the match for the Dons, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6.

The Sooners take on Sacramento State (8-9) Thursday at Noon (PST). The match will be held at the Hellman Tennis Center in Berkely, Calif.
