OU Men's Tennis Cruises Past Cameron

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team improved to 11-2 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Cameron Tuesday at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center. The Sooners won five of six in singles and took all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.

Sooner freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhebsk, Russia), seniors Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) and Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania) all won in straight sets while freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) fell behind a set to CU's Marco Valdez but came back to prevail 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Garrison and Mitchell prevailed at No. 1 doubles beating CU's Christian Glaser and John Patak, 8-5. The duo are 7-1 at No. 1 doubles this spring and 14-3 for the year. Ogle and sophomore Brad Prigmore (Wichita Falls, Texas) took care of CU's Alex Furlan and Valdez at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, while Ivanov and sophomore Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) were 8-3 winners over Mauricio Mier and Gustavo Blanco at No. 3 doubles.

The Sooners return to conference play Saturday, March 15, when they travel to Waco, Texas, to take on No. 4 Baylor. The Bears are 2-0 in conference play and 13-1 overall following a 6-1 victory over No. 9 Kentucky. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Baylor Tennis Center.
