NORMAN, Okla. - A small contigent of the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team traveled to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Winter Cup this past weekend and once again proved the Sooners are a group to be reckoned with on the collegiate and national level.
Leading the pack of five competitors was senior Josh Landis who won on the pommel horse during Saturday's event finals with a 9.300. Landis also collected a fourth place finish on the floor exercise with a solid opening score of 9.050.
"Josh Landis was exceptional during the event finals," said OU Head Coach Mark Williams. "He scored a 9.400 during the all-around competition and followed that up with a 9.300 during the finals. Daniel Furney had a fine performance in the all-around and just missed out on a chance to become a member of the US National Team."
Fellow senior Daniel Furney collected a third-place finish on the parallel bars with a 9.125 and a fifth-place finish in the all-around with a score of 52.750. Furney's all-around score was the third highest finish by any collegiate competitor. Sophomore David Henderson (44.375) finished 49th in the all-around and missed out on the event finals.
Senior Shannon Carrion reached the high bar event finals and finished fourth with a 8.55. Freshman Jamie Henderson competed on four events during Friday's all-around competition, notching a high of 8.600 on pommel horse.
