NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma freshman wrestler Teyon Ware garnered his second Big 12 Wrestler of the Week title by beating defending national champion Aaron Holker, 9-3 in Ames, Iowa, on Sunday. Ware currently has a 12 match win streak where he has outscored opponents 83-28. The win streak also includes two pins and a technical fall. Ware's previous Big 12 weekly honor (Jan. 20) also came when he defeated then top-ranked Holker, 3-1, and second-ranked Zack Esposito, 5-5 (2OT), at the National Duals.

"We are ecstatic for Teyon," said OU head coach Jack Spates. "He is such a great kid and a tenacious competitior that he deserves everything that comes his way. He had his second victory over last year's national champion and that was unbelievable. It was a great bout and he just wouldn't be denied. We are very proud of him."

Ware is the only wrestler in the conference to receive this honor twice this season. His win gives Oklahoma three top-wrestler awards, the most in the league. Senior Witt Durden recorded the honor on Jan. 27.

The Edmond, Okla., native began competition for the Sooners in January at 141 pounds and has compiled a 24-4 overall record and a 4-0 conference record, despite coming out of redshirt in January. Ware, a true freshman, garnered four Oklahoma state titles and went undefeated during his prep career at Edmond North.

Ware's next competition will be against top-ranked Esposito of Oklahoma State in the third bedlam battle of the year on Sunday in Stillwater, Okla. Ware defeated Esposito at the National Duals in double overtime.
