NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team defeated regional opponent Southwest Missouri State, 4-2, Friday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Center in Springfield, Mo. The Sooners move to 7-1 overall and 3-0 against regional opponents while the Bears fall to 0-3 on the season.
Senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) picked up his fifth victory of the season with a 6-3, 6-4, win over Rishi Garbharran at No. 2 singles while freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) won in straight sets over Filip Knezevic to push his record to 6-2.
Senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) clinched the victory for OU at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Ogle downed Predrag Pavlicic, 6-4, 6-1, while Tanasoiu beat Shengi Nyagura, 6-0, 6-4.
The Sooners have two weeks off until they begin conference play on the road against No. 58 Texas Tech. Match time is set for noon at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.
