OU Men's Tennis Too Much For Oral Roberts

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team defeated regional opponent Oral Roberts, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Tulsa Southern Tennis Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Sooners move to 6-1 overall and 2-0 against regional opponents while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-4 on the season.

The Sooners won all but one match in singles. Senior Chris Mitchell (Tulsa, Okla.) won in straight sets at No. 1 singles over Matt Munson to push his record to 4-1 overall. Mitchell is 3-0 when playing at the No. 1 position. Freshman Alexei Ivanov (Izhevsk, Russia) improved his record to 5-2 with a straight-set victory over Jared Welch at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Alex Nomicos (Targoviste, Romania) was victorious at the No. 4 singles position in straight sets. Nomicos now has six victories in singles to lead OU. Senior Matt Ogle (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Silviu Tanasoiu (Sibiu, Romania) were also straight-set winners.

OU won two out of three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Freshman Tommy Garrison (Enid, Okla.) and Mitchell beat Munson and Welch at the No. 1 position to remain undefeated (4-0). Ivanov and sophomore Matt Long (Fort Worth, Texas) got past Kevin Garlington and Eddie Paez to push their record to 4-1.

The Sooners continue their road trip as they invade Springfield, Mo., tomorrow (Feb. 14) to take on Southwest Missouri State at the Cooper Tennis Center. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
