Detrick Named Big 12 Player of the Week

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma senior guard Jason Detrick was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week today following performances in wins against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Michigan State. Detrick averaged 19.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals for the week and scored a career-high 26 points against the No. 5 Spartans in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The 6-6, 215-pound Detrick totaled 13 points, three rebounds and a career-high-tying five steals in just 17 minutes of action against Arkansas-Pine Bluff last Tuesday as OU cruised to a 94-24 win. The Sooners set seven Kelvin Sampson era single-game records in the contest, including victory margin (70 points). Versus Michigan State, Detrick added three rebounds and two steals to his 26 points. He was 16-for-19 from the foul line. The free throw makes and attempts were the most by a Sooner since Corey Brewer went 17-for-20 against Missouri in the 1997-98 season (a span of 181 games).

From Newport News, Va., Detrick missed the first two games of the season due to an abdominal injury but has come off the bench in his three games to average a team-high 16.7 points per outing. He is also averaging 2.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals per contest while shooting .542 from the field and .828 from the foul line. He has attempted 29 free throws already this year (9.7 per game).

Missouri freshman forward/center Linas Kleiza was named the league's newcomer of the week after averaging 10.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in a pair of Tiger victories.
