Journal Entry No. 3 (Dec. 3, 2003)
The Arkansas-Pine Bluff game was good for our team. It gave everyone a chance to play and improve our defense. It allowed us to really work on some things that we needed to work on.

Jason, have you always worn number five?
- Matt from Ardmore, Okla.

No, I wanted number three.  I've always wanted a single number and since I couldn't get number three, I took number five because there's five of us Detrick boys -- plus my birthday's on the fifth of December. That's why I picked No. 5. Hey, that leads us into the next question...

Jason, in your previous journal, you mentioned your brother, Kino.  Is he your only sibling?
- Herman from Montpelier, Vt.

I have four brothers -- there's five of us all together. I'm in the middle, I'm number three. Kino is the oldest, then there's Kevin. My younger brothers are Jermaine and Jared. We all play sports. My baby brother is probably the best. Jared's in the ninth grade and he started varsity football. He plays defensive tackle and offensive guard for Woodside High School back in Virginia. I think he'll play for the varsity team in basketball too.  He does it all.

Hi Jason and go get 'em this season. Do you feel it was better for you to play junior college ball first before D1?
- Herb from Kansas City, Mo.

Yeah, I thought it was better because I wasn't a developed player yet. I didn't really get recruited by a bunch of Division 1 schools. I was recruited by East Carolina -- they were basically the only school. It was better for me to go JC (Southwest Missouri State-West Plains) because I finally got to play my natural position which is guard. I was one of the tallest players on my high school team so I had to play down low there. At Southwest Missouri State I got to play one, two and three. It really helped me out.

What is the best prank someone pulled this year in the locker room and who was the brains behind the operation?
- Kate from Bartlesville, Okla.

The big jokers in the locker room -- either Jaison Williams or one of the freshmen. Larry Turner dunked -- wait -- I LET Larry Turner dunk on me one day in practice and I come in the next morning early and there was a picture of Larry dunking on me on the dry erase board in the locker room. I still don't know who drew it to this day.

Jason, what things do you like to do pre-game to get yourself and/or your teammates mentally prepared?
- Keli from Tulsa, Okla.

I like to have a regular day and not think about the game beforehand. Because if you think about a game and worry too much, then bad things will happen. Me and Jaison Williams have sort of a pre-game thing we do before every game. It starts at eight in the morning -- we go eat breakfast together, then we go t class. We come back to my house and we play with my Pitbulls, Pinero and Ceasar. Ceasar just likes to lay on Jaison so he likes that. Then we go goof off at his house, play video games -- that kind of stuff.

We come to shootaround and eat together, then I go drop him off at his house and he takes a shower. He comes back over and we play video games and listen to music. We do that before every game.

Thanks for all the emails Sooner fans and see you at the game...

- #5 Jason Detrick
