Perianu and Saluri Start Strong at ITA/All-American

Oklahoma senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania) and junior Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) got off to a strong start Tuesday, by winning their first round qualifying match in the 2003 Riviera/ITA All-American Women's All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Perianu and Saluri dominated Florencia Basile and Virginia Tomatis of Mississippi, 8-2, in doubles.
In singles action, Perianu cruised in her first round qualifying singles match, defeating Emilia Anderson of Stanford, 6-0, 6-1, in less than an hour. Perianu then took to the court later Tuesday afternoon to loose a tough three-setter in the second round to Vanderbilt's Audra Falk. Perianu won the first set 6-0, but was unable to fend off Falk's comeback and lost the last two sets 4-6, 4-6. The loss eliminated Perianu from singles play.
Perianu and Saluri team up again Wednesday to play sixth-seeded Amanda Johnson and Tory Zawacki of Duke at 1 p.m. PST.
