Perianu reaches singles final
University of Oklahoma women's tennis player, senior Anda Perianu (Braila, Romania), dominated Saturday at the 2003 ITA Women's Central Regional Championships at the Eccles Tennis Center, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Perianu fought through two more rounds to reach the singles championship final.
The second-seeded Perianu cruised in her quarter final match, crushing Boise State's Erin Polowski, 6-0, 6-1. Perianu was pushed harder in the semi final, defeating third-seeded Barbara Zahnova of BYU in three sets, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2. Perianu now faces fourth-seeded Gitte Ostermann of Nebraska in the singles final Sunday at 10.30 a.m.
In doubles action, Perianu and partner Heather Saluri (Des Moines, Iowa) finished their run at the tournament, falling in the semi final. The OU pair won their quarter final match against Sofia Holden and Barbara Zahnova of BYU 8-6, but then fell to Tulsa's seventh-seeded team of Daniela Muscolino and Ilona Somers 8-6.
The women's singles championship final is scheduled for 10.30 a.m Sunday.
