OUs Baseline Bash To Be Held Halloween Night

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's and women's basketball teams will hit the hardwood on Oct. 31 Halloween night for the fun-filled "Haunted House of Hoops Baseline Bash" at Lloyd Noble Center. It will mark the teams' first public on-court appearance of the 2003-04 season. Admission and parking will be free.

Sponsored by Arvest Banks, the event will begin at 5 p.m. with a Safe Trick-or-Treat including carnival games and candy on the upper concourse. Top Dawg, Ronald McDonald, and the Hamburglar will be on hand while the OU spirit squads and Sooner Showmen pep band will also perform. At 6 p.m., Sherri Coale's women's team will hold an hour-long autograph session. On-court activities will heat up with a 7 p.m. welcome announcement and naming of costume contest winners.

Coale and men's coach Kelvin Sampson will participate in a shoot-for-books contest with an OU student while another contestant will have the opportunity to win $25,000 in the Arvest Shoot for Loot event.

A brief video presentation will introduce members of both teams beginning at approximately 7:15 before the women's squad will hit the floor for a 30-minute showcase of skills and drills. The men's team will follow with its own 30 minutes of drills and a scrimmage.

And of course, in the tradition of past Baseline Bash events, the basketball portion of the night will wind down with a rendition of "Boomer Sooner" by the men's team's newcomers. Six players will voice their (lack of) talents on the microphone.

Following the on-court basketball activities, the OU men will head to the main concourse for their own 60-minute autograph session. The session is scheduled to conclude at 9:45 p.m., the same time Christian rock group Switchfoot will begin a concert on the Lloyd Noble court. Switchfoot is presented by the OU Campus Activities Council Concert Series.

OU Athletics Ticket Office employees will be in the East Box Office throughout the night selling season ticket packages for both the men's and the women's teams.

Coale's squad and Sampson's Sooners usher in the official college basketball season with practices tomorrow.
