COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A day after finishing second in the team finals at the Rocky Mountain Open the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team brought four Falcon trophies awarded to competitors who finished in the top three in Saturday afternoon's event finals. OU was the only team asides from the United States Olympic Training Center to fill the maximum three spots (of 10 qualifiers) on each event.

"Brett winning the rings against this level of competition is outstanding," said OU Head Coach Mark Williams. "He put some between himself and guys competing on that event in the NCAA. Daniel Furney had a great routine on parallel bars. David Henderson and Shannon Carrion did a great job and in finishing third and beating out USOTC members."

Senior co-captain Josh Landis began the afternoon with a fourth place finish and score of 8.850 on floor exercise. Daniel Furney (8.500) and Curtis O'Rorke (8.450) finished in seventh and eighth, respectively.

On pommel horse Furney (8.850), O'Rorke (8.800), and Landis (8.500) ended up just outside the top three, finishing fourth, fifth and sixth. Furney would later earn a Falcon trophy and second place with a 9.400 on parallel bars.

Senior Brett Covey was up to his usual business scoring a 9.650 and claiming a first place finish on the still rings. Covey's score was the highest of the weekend for the Sooners and the second highest mark of the season. Covey owns the season high mark with a 9.850 on still rings during last weekend's meet at Michigan. Freshman Jamie Henderson earned a 9.000 and sixth place finish on rings as well.

On vault sophomore Michael Gehart landed a 9.150 only to be outdone by fellow sophomore David Henderson who notched a 9.250 and tied for third.

Shannon Carrrion tied for third on high bar with a score of 9.500, while fellow Sooner Josh Gore ended up in fifth with a 9.000.

OU finished in the top three and above the USOTC, which is composed for current and former national and Olympic team members, on the rings and parallel bars.

"Having three guys in each event and scoring better than the USOTC on certain event really says something about Oklahoma gymnastics," said Williams. "Last year we proved we were a great team and now some individuals are starting to stand out. Individual meets creates competition within the team, which really helps us progress as a team."

Furney was awarded with a trophy prior to this afternoon's event finals for his fourth place finish (54.150) in the all-around during Saturday's team competition.

OU travels to Nebraska for a coed dual meet Feb. 1, for a 7 p.m. meet inside the Devaney Center. OU opens the home schedule with a coed dual meet against Iowa Feb.1, at 7 p.m. inside the Lloyd Noble Center. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children.
