Several Sooners Excel In Summer Baseball Leagues

NORMAN, Okla. - Sophomore pitcher David Purcey leads a list of Oklahoma Sooners who are putting up impressive numbers on their summer collegiate baseball teams. Through games of July 6, Purcey, who competes for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots, led the Alaska Baseball League in strikeouts with 40 and ranked second in the league in ERA at 0.70. His strikeout total currently stands at 50 (as of July 10) as he also owns a 2-1 record with one save and a 1.10 ERA in six appearances. Purcey just completed his freshman campaign for the Sooners where he was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball after leading OU in strikeouts and leading the starting staff in ERA.

Another Sooner pitcher who has jumped out to a hot start this summer is junior lefthander Buddy Blair who plays for the Liberal Bee Jays in the Jayhawk League. His stats (as of June 18) reflect a 1-0 record and 0.00 ERA through his first two outings. Blair is also averaging a strikeout an inning as he has fanned 11 batters in as many innings pitched.

Fellow 2002 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Matt Bose is playing the corner infield positions for the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League. As of July 11, Bose was batting .248 with 10 runs scored, 14 RBI and five doubles in 30 games played.
