Women's Golf Finishes In Sixth Place at NCAA Championships :: Sooners record highest NCAA finish in school history, Tannehill finishes in ninth place.

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's golf team claimed sixth place at the NCAA Championships at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash. Oklahoma turned in a four-round score of 1179 to receive its highest finish in school history. Duke claimed the team title and also had the individual champion, Virada Nirapathpongporn.
Senior Jennifer Tannehill, who saved one of her best collegiate performances for the end, carded rounds of 70-75-73-70. Tannehill finished in ninth place, her second highest finish of the year. Sophomore Lisa Meldrum finished tied for 31st with a score of 296 after carding a 67 in the second round, which set a new course record. Meldrum also set the course and conference records (67) at the 2001 Big 12 Championships, which were held at The Harvester in Harvester, Iowa. Senior Wendy Martin, who ranked second in the tournament in par-three scoring, trailed Meldrum by one stroke for a 41st place finish. Junior Allison Johnson turned in a score of 304 to finish in 75th place and sophomore Hope Edge finished tied for 99th with a score of 309.
"This ninth place finish feels very gratifying," said Jennifer Tannehill. "I've worked really hard for the last four years and it all came together. I'm really proud of hte team and the fact that we got noticed. This isn't the end of my golf career and hopefully this is a sign of what is to come in the future."
