NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma junior Jason Fransz was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for his play in OU's series win over Oklahoma State, the league announced today. Fransz went 6-for-12 (.500) for the Bedlam series, with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored, 12 total bases, a slugging percentage of 1.000, and a sacrifice fly. His two-run home run last Friday night broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning and proved to be the game-winning runs.
The award is Fransz's second on the season, as he was also named Big 12 Player of the Week for his play during Oklahoma's sweep of Missouri on March 8-10. The junior All-America candidate leads OU with a .351 batting average, 14 home runs and 52 RBI.
Jonathan Gutierrez of Kansas State and Dusty Buck of Texas Tech shared Pitcher of the Week honors. Oklahoma will now travel to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament in Arlington, Texas, and will battle Oklahoma State in the first round at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
